Balfours on Westray, Orkney Islands, 1560-1959
Members of the Balfour family were resident in Westray from 1560 until 1959.
The narrative and charts are from ‘Westray Roots -the Family History Newsletter for Westray Folk Everywhere’, Issue 39 in December 2000.
Today the surname Balfour is extinct in Westray after continuing for close on four hundred years. Nevertheless a good number of people can still claim at least a drop of Balfour blood.

1972 Ian Balfour’s Diary
